A competition based in San Francisco, California on Angel Island, that aims to create a structure that acts as a host for the Native Immigrants of the site. Within this project I used the Tatami Japanese proportion of 1:2 at a larger scale to give a sense of spatial layout and organization for each piece of the building.
Within Tatami, there are certain ratios that produce a square center. I extracted this square center to depict a protected gem, an object in space that is guarded by two heavy concrete armatures that all rest in a formed basin, directing visitors and residents back to the site.
